A huge thank you to Pat, Karen, Laura, and Emma, who visited our school to talk to Ms Heavin’s and Mr Coughlan’s classes about the Breeding Waders Project. The students learned about Ireland’s waders, including the curlew, the lapwing, and the redshank; habitat restoration and conservation; head-starting; tracking; and the value of protecting our native species.

Excitement was at fever pitch when the Sixth Class Hoodies were delivered in December! They chose their design and voted on their colour preference earlier in the term. It was a close result; 6-7 in favour of black!!

Sixth class used willow to construct a den in our new school sensory garden. They then added a fedge (fence/ hedge) and an arb. These will benefit our school and community for many years to come. The students also learned how to think creatively and artistically when dealing with sustainability issues in the future.

This morning, we held a very successful Christmas Raffle Draw in aid of our new sensory garden. We would like to sincerely thank all of our generous donors & everyone who supported the fundraiser by purchasing raffle tickets. Your kindness & support are greatly appreciated. Congratulations to all our raffle prize winners. The full list of winners & prizes can be found in the attached PDF in the ‘downloads’ section of the website.

1st class are feeling very proud of their Halloween Art.

A very special mention goes to the wonderful Ms. Browne, who had not one, not two, but three daughters proudly represented on the winning Goldsmiths team - what a wonderful family connection to this success.
We are also immensely proud to see six of our past pupils (Lisa Seery, Sinéad Seery, Charleigh Seery, Shona Neary, Maisie Tormey, Roisín Nally) playing key roles in the win. We are incredibly proud of you all!

Today we had the victorious Goldsmiths Ladies team with the Westmeath LGFA intermediate Trophy that they won at the weekend! The whole School was overjoyed to welcome the girls who did the parish extremely proud over the weekend. Best of luck in your Leinster campaign! We will all be supporting you!

Fourth, fifth and sixth class travelled to Corlea Bog on 8th October. They learned about the the Iron Age road, built in 148 BC, which is the largest of its kind to have been uncovered in Europe. They also went on a bog nature walk to see remaining plants and wildlife of the season and built a bog in a bottle! This trip was part of the RE:PEAT Bog Academy Schools initiative.

The School will hold an Open Night inviting all parents to attend on Thursday, 02nd of October 2025. This is an opportunity for the parents to meet the staff of the school and familiarise themselves with the School facilities.

Children from 1st to 6th class travelled today to the grounds of Belvedere House, Mullingar, to take park in the Westmeath Cross Country County Finals. All the children did brilliantly and had a great day! We even picked up a few medals; well done Donnacha, Kaylee & Dearbhla!

As part of our Culture Week celebrations the 2nd to 6th Classes got the opportunity to construct 2D shapes through weaving willow. All the children loved using their creative streaks to weave their own designs like their ancestors did before them!

Please note that school will be closed on Monday 22nd of September. We have received communication from the ESB Network today. There will be an electrical supply interruption on Monday from 9a.m to 5 pm. As a consequence, we will have no water treatment or waste water pumps operational

We received a fantastic talk from Alma from Agrikids today discussing how we can look after ourselves helping out on the farm. She informed and discussed with the kids some of the dangers that come with being on the farm. Thank you Alma for the brilliant talk!

Today our junior infants were introduced to the rest of the School at our first assembly of the year! They even got the opportunity to meet our fantastic new 6th class students!

A brilliant start to the new school year welcoming these fantastic young children to the Ardnagrath community! It was great to see the smiles and excitement that they brought through the school door this week…
